STYLING STUDIO CAR  CONCEPT  ART  BY JOHN SAMSEN

During and after World War II, car designers (called stylists then) sketched and rendered (painted) their concepts of what the new cars could look like. Some concepts were chosen by management, and clay models were sculpted based on the concepts.Eventually, a full size clay model was created, and if approved for production, became the design for a new car.

The great majority of the concept art work was destroyed; however, a few pieces wound up in the collections of management people, and designers. These original concept drawings are now sought after by automobilia collectors and museums, and bring a high price on auctions.

John Samsen managed to aquire and save a number of his styling concept pieces, and most of the originals are now in museums, such as The Boston Museum of Fine Art, The Peterson Automotive Museum of Los Angeles, and the Museum of Automotive Art and Design. Other pieces are in private collections. They have been featured in such books as Virgil Exner Visioneer, Dodge Challenger Plymouth Barracuda, Ford Design Department1932-1961, Driving Through Futures Past, and American Automobile Art, 1945-1970, and in many classic car magazines.
NOW HIGH DEFINITION FINE ART REPRODUCTIONS (GICLEE) OF SOME OF SAMSEN'S CONCEPT ART PIECES ARE AVAILABLE.  MANY OF THESE CONCEPTS INFLUENCED THE DESIGN OF THE FORD AND MOPAR PRODUCTION AND EXPERIMENTAL CARS.

THE BUYER CAN CHOOSE THE SIZE, TYPE OF ARCHIVAL PAPER DESIRED, OR EVEN CANVAS.   VERY LARGE PRINTS FOR CLASSIC CAR EVENTS AND DISPLAYS  ARE AVAILABLE. PRINTS CAN BE MATTED AND  PROFESSIONALLY FRAMED.  POST CARDS ARE AVAILABLE.
